Are they safe?
Well, that's an obvious question to ask, and we asked it ourselves. If the instructions are followed and you are sensible, then yes, they are safe and fun.Trading Standards have reviewed the product (with lab tests performed by the Health & Safety Executive). We also have an independent testing laboratory test our lanterns to ensure that they match or exceed the performance of those tested by the HSE.

What happens when they come back down?
Well, firstly, they only come back down when the fuel cell has gone out. So, provided you have followed the instructions, there should be no reason for a burning lantern to return to earth prematurely. Occasionally on extremely still evenings, you can witness the return of your lantern to earth, and they come back down suprisingly gently!

But are they not going to litter the countryside ?
We don't want to be involved in polluting our green and pleasant land any more than you do. For this reason we have looked very carefully into what happens to a lantern once it lands. ALL the components of a lantern are FULLY biodegradable. The lantern needs only a little moisture to turn to mush and it will then quickly decompose. The outer stiffener that keeps the mouth of the lantern open is made from natural bamboo. All parts of Firefly Lanterns are non-toxic.

Can I write a message on a Lantern ?
You certainly can! Just use a very soft marker pen and write very gently. The lantern paper is very delicate and your lantern won't fly if you tear it.
