| Indonesia breaks lantern record | 6-Dec-2009 |
Indonesia has broken the world record for launching the most number of chinese flying lanterns simultaneously. Officials say more than 10,000 paper lanterns were released into the night sky above Jakarta. This video on the BBC website is very impressive: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/8397724.stm

| London Science Museum | 18-Nov-2008 |
It is with great pride that we can today announce that Firefly Lanterns are now available for sale in the very best science museum in the known world! The London Science Museum will be our first outlet in central London and we hope that this the begining of a great partnership (the SKoS team now have an excuse to visit the science museum even more often).

| Carbon Offsetting | 20-Oct-2008 |
When we first decided to set up SKoS as a new business, we had 3 founding principals. The business had to be "ethical", "environmentally friendly" and "fun". We have made good progress so far on all three counts and it was nice today, to receive the following letter from the Woodland Trust today. We always intended that a percentage of our profits would be used to offset the carbon we use as part of our day to day business activities (although we do try and keep travel/shipping to an absolute minimum), the letter below, is what we hope will be one of many as our company grows.

| Go Go G-OJEN | 18-Aug-2008 |
Some of the SKoS team went out to help Hot Air Balloon Team G-OJEN (G-OJEN being the registration of the balloon) this week. Balloonists need to know which way the wind is blowing and how cool the air is. Traditionally, they carry around a helium cylinder and release a helium balloon to check the wind direction - and team G-OJEN did just this early on Friday morning with the SKoS team acting as part of the recovery crew. Obviously we couldn't miss the opportunity to show off - so we let off a lantern to race the helium balloon. Interestingly , the helium balloon went one way and the lantern went another. Guess which gave the true wind direction ? Yep, the lantern.
On take-off, G-OJEN proceeded to follow the exact path taken by the lantern, giving the pilot Clare, a much better indication of her expected flight path.
So, all you Hot Air Balloonists out there, why cart around expensive Helium and release an environmentally questionable latex balloon - use a FireFly Lantern and get a better result!
The morning ended with a fantastic and highly skillful landing of G-OJEN right in the centre of Barnsley on a little patch of grass. It was amazing to watch and hopefully something we can help with again sometime soon.

| UFO's Over Huddersfield? | 31-Jul-2008 |
Firefly Lanterns made the headlines in the Huddersfield Examiner this week. Aliens had not infact invaded, Firefly Lanterns had. We are trying to get hold of a copy for the SKoS scrap book, but for now, you can see the story here. Update : News article1 here

| Anti-Gravity | 5-Jul-2008 |
One of the SKoS team got a lot of pleasure today from dropping off our first consignment of FireFly Lanterns to Anti-Gravity in York. We have loved this shop for years (since it first opened in Leeds) as it sells all the sorts of things we really like to buy (things that fly!). The lanterns looked great in the shop and we think they will do really well, we think those guys should open a store in every town!

| A giant people carrying lantern? | 23-Jun-2008 |
The SKoS team have recently had a chat with a local Hot Air Balloon owner, now what a great partnership that would make, giant balloons and Firefly Lanterns in the sky together one day ?
We actually hope it may be a great partnership, balloon pilots currently have to release a latex (not very green) helium balloon prior to launch to establish wind direction. This means an expensive cylinder of helium has to carted around at any time flying may take place. What a great solution Firefly lanterns might be for balloonists. Watch this space.

| It's summertime | 21-Jun-2008 |
Half of the SKoS Team recently made their annual pilgrimage to see the sunrise on the solstice - and off course let a Lantern off to celebrate.
We obviously didn't appease the weather gods totally, as unfortunately the wind wasn't blowing in the direction of a rather beautiful pink and orange sunrise - so we missed out on a fantastic photo opportunity, but had a fantastic hike none the less.

| SKoS is born | 5-May-2008 |
SKoS is finally launched as a company after many months research and much hard work. Our first retailer took its stock of Firefly Lanterns this week and initial signs are good. This week is the first week of an 8 week trial. If all goes well, Firefly Lanterns will be rolled out to many more retailers, to finally get what we believe is a great product and will be hugely popular , out to a much wider audience.
